The S&D Group secretariat (central administration) is based in the European Parliament in the heart of Brussels.  Our 250 staff of multicultural backgrounds, not only from all the 27 member states but also much further afield, are committed to providing dedicated support for the work of the members and for the overall functioning of the S&D Group.

The secretariat has three key roles:

  • to offer political advice, information and research to support political decision-making
  • to assist in policy development and negotiation
  • to provide logistical support and technical assistance for Group activities
UNIT: STRATEGIC SUPPORT FOR INFORMATION CAMPAIGN PROJECTS AND EXTERNAL GROUP MEETINGS

The Strategic Support for Information Campaign Projects and External Group Meetings Unit is responsible for managing key events and projects linked to the information campaign, as well as external group meetings and other ad hoc activities. The team works alongside the colleagues in other units as well as the European Parliament conference services and other Parliament bodies to build on their expertise and take care of the broader aspects such as help with the concept, political message, format, budget, financial requests, speakers, briefings and logistics. The unit also keeps track of activities in the other political groups, as well as important external events, where we can enhance our presence, create synergies and maximise the Group's visibility.
