The S&D Group secretariat (central administration) is based in the European Parliament in the heart of Brussels.  Our 250 staff of multicultural backgrounds, not only from all the 27 member states but also much further afield, are committed to providing dedicated support for the work of the members and for the overall functioning of the S&D Group.

The secretariat has three key roles:

  • to offer political advice, information and research to support political decision-making
  • to assist in policy development and negotiation
  • to provide logistical support and technical assistance for Group activities
UNIT: EXTERNAL COORDINATION

The Unit External Coordination helps prepare the Group President and the other office holders (in particular EP Vice-Presidents and Committee chairs) for the meetings of Parliament's governing bodies: the Conference of Presidents, the EP Bureau, the Quaestors and the Conference of Committee Chairs. Moreover, the Unit is in charge of the Groups internal coordination amongst S&D committee chairs. The Unit is also responsible of maintaining the Group's working relations with the Council of European Union and the European Commission as well as monitoring and coordinating cross-sectoral political and legislative initiatives. The current head of unit is Bogna SUDA.
