The S&D Group secretariat (central administration) is based in the European Parliament in the heart of Brussels.  Our 250 staff of multicultural backgrounds, not only from all the 27 member states but also much further afield, are committed to providing dedicated support for the work of the members and for the overall functioning of the S&D Group.

The secretariat has three key roles:

  • to offer political advice, information and research to support political decision-making
  • to assist in policy development and negotiation
  • to provide logistical support and technical assistance for Group activities
UNIT: INTERNAL COORDINATION

The Unit Internal Coordination is preparing the work of the S&D Group's governing bodies: the Bureau, the meetings of the Heads of Delegation, the Coordinators and the Group meeting itself. The Unit is also responsible for the preparation and smooth running of the monthly plenary sessions: It prepares the agendas, with a view to the priorities of the S&D Group, and ensures the smooth running of the debates and votes. Moreover, the Unit is in charge of the Groups internal coordination amongst S&D coordinators.
