Our Team

The S&D Group secretariat (central administration) is based in the European Parliament in the heart of Brussels.  Our 250 staff of multicultural backgrounds, not only from all the 27 member states but also much further afield, are committed to providing dedicated support for the work of the members and for the overall functioning of the S&D Group.

The secretariat has three key roles:

  • to offer political advice, information and research to support political decision-making
  • to assist in policy development and negotiation
  • to provide logistical support and technical assistance for Group activities

Iratxe García Pérez is the president of the S&D Group. The role of the president’s cabinet is to assist the president in her functions, advise her on policy, and ensure the smooth running of her office. The president’s cabinet consists of a head and deputy head of cabinet, a spokesperson, and three cabinet assistants, as well as six specialist advisors who focus on the following policy areas:

  • Economic & Social Model Policy
  • Financial, Regional & Rural Development & Fisheries Policy
  • Women’s Policy
  • Foreign Affairs Policy
  • Sustainability Policy
  • Fundamental Rights and Migration Policy
