The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament congratulate Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky on becoming Ukraine’s next president, saying reforms on corruption and the economy have been insufficient to date.
Knut Fleckenstein, S&D spokesperson on foreign affairs, said:
“Congratulations to Mr. Zelensky for his landslide victory. I fully understand the decision of the citizens of Ukraine and the need to intensify the fight against corruption and the need for economic reforms. Now is a turning point to continue in the democratic and economic development in the country. We S&Ds give the newly elected President the chance to tackle the upcoming challenges. We appreciate, that Mr Zelenski has already announced the path to the European Union and a new approach in the dialogue with Moscow. I also respect the wish to have a referendum on the issue of NATO.”
