The country's failure to conduct free and fair elections or to fulfil international standards for democracy and the rule of law, means the European Parliament does not have official relations with the Parliament of Belarus. The delegation maintains active and close dialogue with representatives of the country's democratic opposition, independent NGOs and civil society.
There are regular meetings held in Brussels and Strasbourg on the development of EU policy towards Belarus and assessing the political and economic situation as well as the state of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
