The DEEA covers the EU's bilateral inter-parliamentary relations with Iceland, Norway and Switzerland and ensures democratic oversight of the implementation of the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement in the EU. In the framework of the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee, DEEA Members meet with their counterparts from Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland to exchange views and adopt resolutions that provide input and direction to the executive branch of the EEA.

Political dialogue has taken place in various areas of mutual interest, such as strengthening citizens' rights, addressing the challenges of migration and refugees and boosting cooperation in the field of security and defence.
