Since its creation in 2006, EuroLat has held eleven ordinary plenary sessions in addition to meetings of its committees twice a year. In order to prepare for the end of the EP legislature in 2019, a record number of 12 resolutions drafted by the standing committees were adopted and the Assembly Rules of Procedure were revised.

Building on a longstanding parliamentary relationship and based on shared interests and values, the political dialogue between the EU and Latin America have intensified in recent years and deals with a wide range of issues including climate change, migration, the fight against illegal drugs, the promotion of human rights, education, science and technology. Despite these positive developments, EU-Latin America relations are also facing major challenges, such as China's emergence as a new actor in Latin America, the impact of the current US administration's policies, the situation in Venezuela etc.
