Stronger social security co-ordination will strengthen workers' protection and facilitate mobility of labour

The S&D Group has made the following statement on the European Commission’s proposal to amend the legislation on social security co-ordination within the European Union.

S&D Group spokesperson on employment and social affairs Jutta Steinruck said:

“We welcome the efforts made by the Commission to better co-ordinate the social security systems in Europe. Equal treatment and the non-discrimination of workers needs to be ensured. If workers move from one country to another, it must be clear that they don't lose general entitlements from their home country.

“There is no question that workers in a host country have to fulfil the same conditions as the nationals to receive the same entitlements.

“The co-ordination of the social security systems in Europe becomes even more important against the background of digitalisation.”
