Following comments from the EPP candidate for the presidency of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, that he wants to be a president who fights for values, S&D Group vice-president Tanja Fajon said:
“Dear Mr Tajani, you stated in an interview the other day that you will be a Parliament president who fights for values - but, dear Mr Tajani, what values do you have in mind? The same values as Mr Berlusconi and Mr Orbán? The values of division, of dodgy deals rather than solidarity, transparency and a common European approach?
“This is not the direction in which Europe should be heading. The last thing the EU’s most democratic institution needs is the failed model of a Berlusconi government.”
