Quote of the week
The summit in Sibiu on 9th May, the day of the Schuman declaration, is a unique opportunity for EU leaders to send a bold signal of renewal towards European citizens. We cannot go on with business as usual when our planet is under historic threat and children live in poverty while big companies pay almost zero taxes. Under the leadership of conservatives, the European Union has failed to give the right and fair response to these biggest of all challenges in the past years.
Udo Bullmann, reacting to the Sibiu Summit
One week to go! Next Sunday, May 19, the European Parliament will open its doors in Strasbourg, to welcome everyone who is interested in finding more about how the European Union works. We’ll be there, joined by several of our Members, ready to answer people’s questions and tell them about our parliamentary work in the mandate that is just coming to an end. Of course, games and music will also be on our agenda.
If you’re in Brussels on May 18, don’t forget to save the date! It’s time for the rainbow event of the year in Brussels - the Belgian Pride, which also happens to be the first event of the Pride season this year. We’ll be there alongside our partners at Rainbow Rose, marching for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community in Belgium and all over Europe. You can find more details about this year’s Pride here.
With all parliamentary work wrapped up, we are just 13 days away from the European Elections, scheduled to take place from 23 to 26 May.
Check out below a video on the achievements Europe enjoys thanks to Social-Democrat initiatives.
And don’t forget to tune in on Wednesday, 15 May, at 21.00 for the European Parliament debate with the candidates for the EU’s top position. The discussion, streamed live here, will be an opportunity to discover where the candidates stand on a wide range of issues.
