Following the legislative elections in France, the president of the S&D Group Gianni Pittella said:
"I congratulate La République En Marche for its clear victory in the legislative elections. However, this is not a plebiscite.
"The historically high level of abstention indicates that voters did not want to give a blank cheque to the current government. For its part, the Parti Socialiste must now change radically. They must mobilise energies and encourage popular participation. We need a left that is close to the people, capable of playing its role of opposition with determination and courage, based on the real needs of citizens and society."
