S&D Group president Iratxe García, on the State of the European Union address:
"The Next Generation EU recovery plan must be the beginning of a transition towards a more sustainable economic and social model, a real pact for sustainability. We have done a lot, indeed, but we are only halfway there. (…) This is the ultimate objective of any policy strategy: the wellbeing of the people. This is what we must dedicate our time and effort to. And I believe we have not yet done enough. Because the pandemic has exacerbated the difficulties and inequalities of an unfair economic model. The most vulnerable groups have suffered the most."

WHAT’S COMING UP
The Conference on the Future of Europe kicks off with its Citizens’ Panels. Today’s debates will focus on some of our main priorities like social justice, jobs, education, youth and the digital transformation. This is about the future of Europe and that is why S&D MEPs fought to make sure that at least a third of the panels’ participants are under 25. You can share your vision for the Future of Europe on our #Progressives4Europe multilingual debating platform.
Next week, on Wednesday, we’re going live with a debate from Ljubljana, Slovenia. Keeping a close eye on health measures, we have invited politicians, specialists and members of civil society to discuss the future of the EU. We want to touch on the most current topics that will directly affect the lives of future generations, such as environmental protection and climate, digitalisation and digital literacy, but also on topics that are increasingly becoming a point of separation, such as communication culture, growth of extreme movements, and migration.
