“With 70% of all adults now fully vaccinated in the EU, we showed that together we are stronger. The European vaccination strategy is a successful example of a Europe that cooperates and moves forward together. Healthcare workers made it all possible and we are so grateful for everything they do.”

With over 2 billion people living with obesity, including very young children, it is a global phenomenon which disproportionately affects people from the most disadvantaged socio-economic groups. On Thursday 9 September, Andreas Schieder, S&D MEP and co-chair of the Global Progressive Forum, will host representatives from Chile, Mexico and the US to discuss how these countries are tackling the issue. Jytte Guteland, S&D MEP and co-ordinator on the European Parliament’s committee on the environment, public health and food safety, will be on the panel to outline the European perspective on tackling obesity. Committees and plenary preparation

On Monday 6 September, S&D MEPs in the women's rights and gender equality committee and the subcommittee on human rights will be standing up for women’s and girls’ rights in Afghanistan. MEPs will discuss how the EU can support women and girls in light of the risks they face under the Taliban. On Thursday, members of the committees on agriculture and environment will hold a vote on the “Farm to Fork” strategy. Spearheading this file are MEPs Clara Aguilera (AGRI) and Biljana Borzan (ENVI), fighting for a progressive and effective strategy for a healthy and environmentally friendly food system while helping farmers to compete at a local and global level, maintaining Europe-wide high standards of food quality and safety.

Next week, S&D MEPs will also be busy preparing for the next plenary session from 13 September to 16 September.
