S&D Group renews links with Serbia's Democratic Party

Socialist and Democrat MEPs welcomed Bojan Pajtić, the President of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DS) to meetings in Brussels this week.

The sister party leader, who is also the Prime Minister of the country's Vojvodina Regional Government, raised concerns about press freedom in the country and recent military exercises undertaken by the Serbian Government.

Mr Pajtić held meetings with S&D vice-president Victor Boştinaru MEP, S&D foreign affairs coordinator Richard Howitt MEP and Elena Valenciano MEP, the president of the European Parliament's human rights sub-committee.

The S&D members welcomed the opportunity to renew links with DS near the beginning of the new parliamentary term, pledged close cooperation with the party and a continuing commitment to promoting democracy and human rights in Serbia as part of the EU enlargement process.
