Following the accord reached in the UN on an international agreement to manage migration, S&D vice-president responsible for foreign affairs and human rights, Elena Valenciano, stated:

“The S&D Group welcomes the historic decision in the UN on a global compact to manage migration around the world.

“The US boycott has not stopped the willingness of a multilateral approach through partnerships and worldwide alliances for a safe, orderly and regular migration and refugees pact.

“The EU and its member states have to be at the forefront of this path in order to collectively manage the massive and global phenomenon of migration by respecting each migrant and refugee as a human being.”
