Following today's meeting in the European Parliament with Yiannakis Omirou, the president of the Cypriot House of Representatives, the leader of the S&D Group, Gianni Pittella, stated:
"We support all efforts put in place to reach a sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue on the basis of a federal state solution with a single sovereignty. We welcome Mr Yiannakis Omirou's strong commitment to this target.
"There are still several issues to be negotiated and agreed, especially the properties, the guarantor countries, freedom of movement and full respect for human rights of all citizens.
"The S&D Group will be fully engaged in this process and calls on all sides to comply with the international commitments, showing the proper political willingness to finally solve the Cyprus issue."
