Following today’s afternoon meeting with MK Hilik Bar, deputy speaker of the Knesset and secretary general of the Israeli Labor Party, Gianni Pittella, leader of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, signed a partnership agreement with the Israeli Labor Party.
Following the signing of this partnership agreement, Gianni Pittella said:
"The very timely signature today of a partnership agreement with our sister Israeli Labor Party means the setting out of commitments to strengthen our cooperation based on the shared values of peace, democracy, social justice and solidarity, the respect for human rights and international law, and the shared ambition for achieving just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
"We wish to work together to promote progressive values, ideas and policies in our respective societies.
"I wish to recall the decisive role to be played by progressive forces in efforts aimed at guaranteeing Israel's right to a secure existence, protecting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, achieving mutual recognition, and promoting the peace process."
