Memorandum of Understanding between the S&D Group and the Democratic Party of Moldova

Today, Gianni Pittella, on behalf of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, and Marian Lupu, on behalf of the Democratic Party of Moldova, signed the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding that was concluded on 4 December 2012.

Gianni Pittella and Marian Lupu expressed their determination to carry on strengthening cooperation through intensified contacts and exchanges in order to promote and support, in our respective parliaments and beyond, Moldova's EU aspirations on the one hand, and European social democratic values and policies, on the other.

The signature of this Memorandum of Understanding with PDM is, on the one hand, a reconfirmation of the commitment to common values and, on the other, another manifestation of the S&D Group's consistent support to the European aspirations of the Moldovan people. The main objective of this memorandum is the mutual promotion of social democratic principles in both parliaments and beyond. It is a renewed commitment on continued and intensified regular contacts and organisation of events on topics of common interest and related to Moldova's bid towards European integration.

The S&D Group is committed, with the sister party PDM and Moldovan people, to a European future for this country still suffering from the economic crisis and the effects of conflicts in the region.

This memorandum of cooperation will come into effect today, date of signature, and will last until the 2019 elections of the European Parliament whereupon new directions for the future cooperation between our organisations will be defined.

The ceremony was also attended by S&D MEPs Knut Fleckenstein and Victor Boştinaru, both vice-presidents of the S&D Group.
