In a written question to the European Council, the EPP candidate for the European Parliament presidency Antonio Tajani stated that children of same-sex couples are ‘certain to have serious psychological problems and experience major difficulties in being accepted as part of society’. The S&D Group want to know if this is still the view Mr Tajani holds.

S&D Group vice-president Jeppe Kofod said:

“There are thousands of families in Europe with same-sex parents. The implication that children born into such families inevitably suffer from ‘serious psychological problems and experience major difficulties in being accepted as part of society’ is deeply offensive. We need urgent clarification from Mr Tajani on whether or not this is a view he still holds.”
