S&D MEP Mr Richard Howitt, vice-chair for the delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia, and S&D MEP Mr Afzal Khan, member of the foreign affairs committee, condemn today's tragic events in Pakistan:
“We strongly condemn the heinous attacks on the Pakistani Bacha Khan University earlier today. We stand with the people of Pakistan and extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. We also wish all those injured a successful and speedy recovery.
“By striking a university, the terrorists are targeting the future of Pakistan. Attacks like these are reminders that we must work even closer and more intensively together to defeat the malice of terrorism.
“The European Union, together with its partners in the international community, remains fully committed to making this a reality.”
