Following the Eurogroup's agreement struck yesterday on the extension of the Greek loan agreement, the president of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament, Gianni Pittella, stated:
"Europe has won. A sense of responsibility and mutual trust between EU countries prevailed over divisions.
"Finally, the commitment shown by all actors involved made possible a reasonable compromise on the Greek request for an extension of the loan agreement.
"This should be a new beginning, not only for Greece but for Europe as a whole. We welcome this positive outcome to which we as the S&D Group contributed through genuine conciliatory actions over the last few weeks."
