Sexual and reproductive health and rights

This report comes at a very important time in Europe, when the conservatives and extreme right have become so threatened by sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) that the report was sent back to the committee during the October plenary.

Reproductive health means that people should be able to have responsible and safe sex, the choice to have children and the freedom to decide if and how often to do so. This also implies the right to be informed and to have access to affordable methods and healthcare services that enable women to go through pregnancy and childbirth to raise healthy children. This second version of the report has retained most of its initial proposals. It has, however, omitted several parts from the initial report such as access to fertility treatments, parts on surrogate motherhood, ‘trans-gender’ and forced sterilisation, some wording on sex education and a long definition on vulnerable groups.
