The proposed regulation aims to make the complex process of formalities easier for citizens who move across borders. A large number of EU citizens live in a member state other than their own and this number is steadily increasing. However, administrative formalities across borders are generally considerably more complicated than within each member state, often involving complex and expensive translations and certifications of documents by the authorities.
The S&D Group takes the view that the needs of European citizens should take precedence, rather than those of national administrations.
