Gender equality is one of the European Union’s fundamental values.

Gender mainstreaming means actively promoting equality between women and men at all stages and in all areas of policy-making and implementation.

During 2021-2027 MFF negotiations, equality between women and men was agreed as a Horizontal Principle of the Budget. The Commission will implement a methodology as soon as it is available, and no later than January 2023.

The aim of the webinar is to examine the state-of-the-art practices when it comes to gender mainstreaming and how to develop a methodology to measure gender expenditure, including the promotion of gender mainstreaming in the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU.

The online event will include a keynote speech by the European Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli, and will be hosted by S&D MEP Margarida Marques - the European Parliament’s rapporteur on the Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU.

The programme also includes a welcome address by S&D MEP Heléne Fritzon - Vice-President of the S&D Group - and interventions by Mr. Gert Jan Koopman - Director General for Budget, European Commission; and by experts such as Mr. Jon Blondal - OECD Expert on Gender Budgeting; Mrs. Carlien Scheele - Director of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE); S&D MEP Eider Gardiazabal Rubial - the S&D Group’s coordinator in the Committee on Budgets of the European Parliament. The webinar will be closed with remarks by S&D MEP Evelyn Regner - Chair of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament.
