MEPs are set to vote today for a report on the EU's transport priorities that supports Labour's calls for a European transport strategy that puts passengers and the environment first.
Lucy Anderson MEP, Labour's European spokesperson on transport, said:
"Labour wants a European transport policy that works for UK passengers and businesses at home and abroad, and I am delighted that so many of our priorities have been recognised and supported in this report.
"Tackling climate change is a key concern for Labour, which is why we fully support further EU action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transport by at least 60 per cent by 2050.
"We are also fighting for greater investment in sustainable transport modes such as rail and cycle routes, ensuring passengers with reduced mobility have full and equal access to public transport options.
"And to promote safe and efficient services, we have pushed for social protections for transport workers, to make sure their working conditions are fair and equal."
The report also includes calls for ambitious targets to reduce road deaths and injuries; proposals for comprehensive passenger rights legislation; and a focus on renewable energy sources.
Lucy Anderson MEP added:
"From protecting passengers to reducing vehicle emissions, Labour MEPs will continue to push for safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems in the UK and across the wider EU."
