Quote of the week by S&D Group president, Udo Bullmann

“We are not naïve free traders. On the contrary, we are committed to protecting our European workers and industries from unfair competition, dumped imports or foreign take-overs of key industries by state-owned investors. However, the way to do this is by respecting the rule-of-law, not through bullying and illegal actions”

Over the course of three days, 100 young people from both inside and outside the EU will discuss the major issues facing Europe and the world. Participants will have the chance to debate with experts from the political, economic and academic worlds.

And since young people will always be a priority for us, on June 1 - 2 several of our MEPs will be joining the European Youth Event in Strasbourg. Check out the programme here for more details.

Our Group has three conferences scheduled for the upcoming week. On June 6th we will be hosting a workshop on Worker's rights and fair mobility -The role of the European Labour Authority. MEPs Agnes Jongerius and Georgi Pirinski will be present to discuss with specialists and trade union representatives. Also on June 6th we’ll be talking about Evaluating counter-terrorism in Europe. MEPs Tanja Fajon and Wajid Khan will host the event which will feature specialists and scholars.

On June 10th our Group will be happy to welcome you in Strasbourg, for the Open Days of the European Institutions. The Open Day programme offers an informative and playful experience, to be shared with friends or family members. Visitors will be able to deepen their knowledge on the functioning of the European Parliament. They will also get to know more about the political groups' projects.

From 11:00 to 14:00, they will be able to occupy the seats of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), exchange views and debate in the hemicycle with MEPs from various political groups, including our own vice-President Evelyne Gebhardt (Germany) and Edouard Martin (France).

This year, for the first time, visitors will get the opportunity to discover the Simone Veil parlamentarium, opened in July 2017. Thus, they will be able to attend a 360° screening of a film and get familiar with the European Union achievements in an interactive space.

And our upcoming TOGETHER events have already been set in place. Follow our new platform for updates on programmes and speakers.
