The S&D Group will propose again a resolution on the situation of human rights in Mexico, particularly regarding journalists.
We call on the Mexican government to redress the serious inadequacy of the protection of journalists and human rights activists, as well as concerning the impunity of criminals.
S&D co-ordinator for the sub-committee on human rights, and urgencies, Soraya Post, said:
"The violence against journalists in Mexico is grave and the European Parliament must take a stand."
S&D MEP and vice-chair of the delegation to the EU-Mexico joint parliamentary committee, Pina Picierno said:
Our group is in the front line and stands next to the victims; we should stand behind the associations that defend the Mexican citizens and the rule of law. It is our duty to defend democracy everywhere and Mexico needs all our support in this fight."
