The president of the S&D Group Gianni Pittella and S&D vice-president Josef Weidenholzer met representatives of the Yazidi-Sinjar Council.

S&D Group president Gianni Pittella stated:

"We have not forgotten about the suffering of the Yazidi people; forced to leave Sinjar in 2014, harassed by Daesh and now facing difficulties returning home. All the forces involved in the conflict should facilitate the return of the displaced Yazidi people back home in security."

S&D Group vice-president Josef Weidenholzer said:

"We call on the European institutions for the immediate recognition of the genocide and serious prosecution of the perpetrators. Two years after the attacks, more than three thousand women and children still remain in the grip of Daesh. Europe should be more active in searching for and liberating them, and offering humanitarian protection in Europe too."
