Transparent government

Transparent government documents

People have the right to know what is being done on their behalf by law-makers and civil servants. Access to documents is a fundamental right in the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights. We take a very strong line in favour of transparency, both in all EU negotiations and on access to information. Any restrictions on public access to documents must be carefully worded and justified. The legislative process in particular must remain entirely transparent and citizens must have access to all relevant documents.
