The EU's founding principles are democracy and the rule of law, but much more must be done to strengthen European democracy at all levels. We stand for a strengthening of democratic accountability and transparency in EU institutions, for holding EU countries to the highest standards of the European Charter of Fundamental Rights, and for putting democracy and human rights at the heart of our policies abroad.
