Economic and social cohesion

Economic and social cohesion

One of the EU's most important tasks is to promote economic and social unity across Europe. A strong cohesion policy is vital for sustainable growth in the EU and the differences in productivity and competitiveness between different EU regions was one of the principal sources of the eurozone crisis. The S&Ds are pushing for a fair budget for policies to promote cohesion across all European regions, with a clear strategy to make sure there is consistency between the work done by the different structural funds (such as the Regional Fund and the Social Fund). We also want to see a stronger territorial focus in cohesion policy, paying more attention to the different approaches needed in urban and rural areas.
