With its 191 MEPs, the Socialists and Democrats Group today successfully secured 7 out of 20 parliamentary committee chairs and 26 vice-chairs.

S&D Group leader Gianni Pittella reacted:

"Just as in the previous legislature, there is no way around the Socialists and Democrats. We are the second largest political group in the European Parliament.  No majority can be reached without our support. We will use our political strength to fight for the better Europe citizens expect.

Our main priority is to bring forward the changes that are needed to build a fairer, more democratic and more socially responsible Europe."

Enrique Guerrero, the S&D Euro MP who led the negotiations for the committee chairs added:

"The new Parliament is now ready to get to work and the Socialists and Democrats are eager to get started leading on key issues such as employment, economic recovery, gender equality and fundamental rights."
