Quote of the week by S&D Group president, Udo Bullmann, addressing French president Emmanuel Macron

“Our Group knows what it means to make democratic politics for the people - in a true European and responsible way.  We are not walking on red carpets, but we are in streets, on market squares and in houses listening to people and their needs. Fighting for a fairer and more just society in which the many and not the few can live the European dream.”

Upcoming activities

Busy days ahead in the Parliament, as we’re getting ready for important votes in committees and we have some interesting events to prepare for the following period.  Stay tuned!

Our MEPs in the committee on culture and education are preparing votes on two important reports next week – on modernising education and on the Youth Strategy. We will be following the proceedings closely during the following days.

We’re also voting on a report on young farmers in the committee on agriculture and rural edvelopment, as we are committed to ensuring that anyone who wants to build a successful enterprise in the agricultural sector has the support they need.

The special TAXE 3 committee will also be meeting next week to discuss about money laundering in the banking system.

We will also hold a vote in the committee on employment and social affairs on the posting of workers – a key issue for us, as Social Democrats.

Our MEPs will also be tackling hot issues such as whistle-blowers and the spread and influence of fake news, with communications on both issues expected from the European Commission.

Next week our MEPs will be joining a high-level international EU-UN conference on the Future of Syria. They will be joined, on April 24-25 by HRVP Federica Mogherini and other speakers.

We are also getting closer to our fourth edition of the School of Democracy, from 6 - 8 June, in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Over the course of three days, 100 young people from both inside and outside the EU will discuss the major issues facing Europe and the world. Participants will have the chance to debate with experts from the political, economic and academic worlds.
