Ahead of the European Council this week, the S&D Group is organising a demonstration on Wednesday, 16 March 2016 at 13h00 in Brussels. The demonstration will be held at Place Jean Rey opposite the EU Council building where heads of state and government will meet.
Under the slogan of "No more walls in Europe – #EUWakeUp" and together with progressive forces from all over Europe, the S&D Group calls on heads of state and government to stop building more walls but to instead solve the refugee and migration crisis through a joint European approach based on solidarity among countries and with people.
Speakers will include:

• Martin Schulz, S&D MEP and president of the European Parliament
• Sergei Stanishev, president of the Party of European Socialists (PES)

• Veronica Anna-Maria Nilsson, deputy secretary general of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC)
The demonstration will be organised by the S&D Group and a wide range of partners have been invited to join, including the Party of European Socialists (PES), Young European Socialists (YES), Socialist Party Belgium (PS), Flemish Socialist Party in Belgium (sp.a), European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Workers Group in the European Economic and Social Committee, PES Group in the Committee of the Regions, Foundation for Progressive European Studies (FEPS), Solidar, and several other non-governmental organisations.

S&D-fractie organiseert demonstratie «Geen muren meer in Europa! - #EUWakeUP » samen met andere progressieve krachten uit heel Europa
In afwachting van de vergadering van de Europese Raad eind deze week organiseert de S&D-fractie op woensdag 16 maart om 13u een demonstratie in Brussel. Deze demonstratie zal plaatsvinden op het Jean Reyplein, tegenover het gebouw van de Europese Raad waar de staatshoofden en regeringsleiders elkaar zullen ontmoeten.
Onder de slogan "Geen muren meer in Europa! - #EUWakeUp", verzoekt de S&D-fractie, samen met andere Europese progressieve krachten, de Europese staatshoofden en regeringsleiders om te stoppen met bouwen van muren als antwoord op de vluchtelingencrisis. In plaats daarvan vragen we een gezamenlijke Europese aanpak die gebaseerd is op solidariteit, zowel met mensen als tussen EU-lidstaten.
