Following the results of the Romanian presidential elections, the president of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament, Gianni Pittella, stated:
"Victor Ponta embodies the most progressive option for Romania's future. We will not abandon the Romanian prime minister.
"Therefore, we encourage Ponta to continue his progressive agenda for the Romanian people in his role as prime minister. The social-democratic forces in Romania should take genuine motivation from the results of the presidential elections to reinforce their commitment to building a better and united Romania."
