Relaunching Europe on Wednesday 29 May 2013, 17h30 at the Cankarjev Dom, CD Club, Prešernova cesta 10, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia : 'TRANSPARENCY & FAIRNESS: THE KEY TO FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION AND TAX EVASION' . Registration required
Relaunching Europe continues its travels around Europe to listen to what you have to say about the future of Europe! Our next stop will bring us in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana on May 29 to discuss Transparency and Fairness in the fight against corruption and tax evasion.
According to a recent study, Europe – and more importantly, Europeans – lose an approximate 1 trillion euro annually due to tax fraud, evasion and avoidance. That’s 2.000 euro per citizen each year! At a time when so many struggle to make ends meet and when vital investments in growth and jobs are being cut down, tax evasion is simply unbearable. Corruption in the economy and in politics also undermines citizens’ trust and fairness for all. More than 50% of European entrepreneurs say corruption and bribery are usual practices in business. In Slovenia and Croatia this percentage rises to up to 96%!
How do we fight such a system? What can Europe and member states do to tackle corruption? How will Europe ensure transparency across the borders? What mechanism can we put in place to make sure all citizens contribute fairly to society? How to coordinate the action among so many different countries and realities? …
