The great trust that the group has placed in me brings pleasure but also responsibilities, because leading a parliamentary group of almost 200 members is a difficult, challenging and ambitious undertaking. Especially as with this political group and with Martin Schulz leading the parliament we must change Europe.
With the socialist and progressive forces we must change the economic policy and open a new front focusing on jobs, growth and on supporting young people.
And then we must strengthen political union in Europe.
These are the two main challenges that will be my priorities as leader of the S&D Group.
